Grit Weed Alert: The UK is still suffering with laced cannabis in 2025

The UKCSC is issuing a grit weed warning to cannabis consumers on the south coast and all over the UK.  We have been sent an alarming video of contaminated cannabis that is so bad you need to be made aware of it. We care, even if the government is failing you!

The sample was named Mac 12 and was purchased through a WhatsApp or telegram chat group on a menu that was posted.

What to look out for? Use your phone camera to zoom in on the cannabis with the flash on. The crystals (called trichomes) should be round, opaque white or amber, If you see sharp edges this could be a form of contamination.

We have seen salt, sugar, glucose powder, glass, iron filings in contaminated cannabis.

What to do if you find contamination? Take pictures and a video as clear as you can and send it to us with the name of the strain, and the area you bought it so we can warn others. You can also send the sample to Wedinos for testing anonymously – but we request you put our contact details so they can inform us of the results, and we can publish them.

How to avoid contaminated cannabis? Change your buying habits. Our advice to people still buying from street dealers, random WhatsApp and Telegram groups is to stop, delete and block the numbers so they can’t solicit you and find get to a 420 event, meet people and find a new contact. There are basic cannabis social clubs that help people get access to safely grown cannabis without contamination all over the UK. Many require having a vouch from an existing member, so go be social! But you can also start your own if you think this is something that needs to be done in your area, and we are happy to help. Alternatively – Grow Your Own!

What can we do to stop this happening? The only way to stop this happening is to actually change the law and the current government don’t seem to have that on their agenda. In fact they’ve said they are against the idea. That doesn’t mean we can’t win hearts and minds over and change their way of thinking.

Medical cannabis wasn’t legalized just because someone in government changed their mind all of a sudden – it took three years of solid non-stop campaigning with several million pounds from giant international corporations behind it.  There are seven million cannabis consumers in the UK that want to see legal change – in a way that actually works for people, rather than just the big business profits from legalization. Whilst the quality of many medical cannabis products leave people yearning for homegrown, there is no chance you’ll get grit weed in one of your legal pots.

Become a member of the UKCSC to help us grow our numbers and raise the funds needed to campaign for legal cannabis social clubs and the right to grow at home.

Thankfully, the person who purchased the cannabis is friends with someone who is a member of the Brighton cannabis Club and is well-informed about the differences between good and bad quality cannabis and how to look out for contamination.

They ground the cannabis up and used a blow torch used for dabbing to burn the flower. As you can see clearly, the applied heat allows the contamination to melt and form together into small beads.

We will be sending the contaminants to be analysed so we can issue a more accurate health warning to the public and cannabis consumers.

Some commenters on social media have remarked that they have never seen grit weed like it, even through the first wave of grit weed in the early 2000s, when glass beads and iron filings were being added to cannabis in order to bring up the weight.

Please share this article or our posts on social media via our pages to help spread this information. Whilst you might be aware of this as an ongoing issue for several decades (it hurt to write that), there are new people starting their cannabis journey every day, and they cannot be expected to know everything and be street wise from the get-go.

To those who are well versed with cannabis, you might laugh at the fact that someone fell for buying something like Mac 12 when Mac 1 is the real strain. People shouldn’t have to be an expert in cannabis in order to enjoy safe, quality cannabis. There’s also the fact that when you pop some seeds (a pack of 15 for example) you label then 1 – 15, so someone could have thought, “oh, someone found a Mac keeper, let me try that”.
