‘Mary Jane’s Brighton’ First Female Cannabis Enthusiast Social Night

Mary Jane’s Brighton Host Social Event for Female Cannabis Enthusiasts

Mary Jane’s Celebrate their First Meet Up at Green Pride Brighton

Brighton, UK: Mary Jane’s Brighton held their launch event at Green Pride Brighton on 30th December 2018. Organisers of the event felt that a space where women could socialise and discuss the medicinal, culinary, recreational and spiritual use of the plant would be beneficial to the local community. One member stated: “There is a common misconception that women do not enjoy cannabis as much as men, or aren’t interested in learning about its uses and getting involved in the cannabis community. Assumptions like this show that women need a stronger voice in the cannabis community.”

The event was provided with vegan catering by local businesswoman Rachel at Quirks Foods. Attendees also brought their own products including medibles, oils and vaporisers to show and share products and knowledge with fellow hemp lovers. Activities throughout the evening included group painting, an impromptu jam session and singalong. There was also a raffle with various prizes such as prosecco, vinyl and sweet treats, donated by the hosts. Attendees travelled from as far as London to be present for the event and mingle with like-minded female cannabis enthusiasts.

Brighton Cannabis Club Secretary commented: “As an active member of the BCC and cannabis community, I could tell that an event specifically for women was greatly desired within the club. Other committee members agreed. I got together with some of the women active in the community who wanted to see positive changes.

“Initially I just wanted to meet other women interested in cannabis culture, but we ended up hosting for some quite influential individuals such as UPA deputy director, Carly Barton.”

Another organiser noted: “We didn’t just discuss wimmin’s issues but other topics important to us such as accessibility for the DisAbled and trans-inclusivity.”

The club’s private event gathered between 20-25 people, an impressive first-time turnout. The organisers said: “It was pleasing to see the meet up attended by such a wide range of people. We all came from different age groups and backgrounds, with diverse ideas and priorities regarding progress in the cannabis community.”

The Mary Jane’s event was held at the Green Pride store in Brighton, in collaboration with the Brighton Cannabis Club and they were key in supporting and promoting the set up of the event. A founding member said of the successful first-time event:

“Mary Jane’s Brighton would like to announce that due to the popularity and interest of this event, we have already begun arranging our next meet up.

“At this point we would like this to become a regular session on the last Sunday of each month. Look out for the hashtag #MaryJanesSundayBunday and let’s keep up the momentum.”
